HaU (Friendly Greeting)

HaU (1 video, above)
March 12, 2015 (Nest Building Time) 8:15AM
Meaning: Friend
Purpose: Cheerful greeting
Uses: In flight or perched, to announce oneself when incoming, to greet when a friendly comes into view.
Scene: One Crow is harvesting a twig for its nest. The mate shows up and is greeted with Hau Hau Hau which is simply the cheerful greeting for mates, or friends.
Interpretation: When we are glad to see someone, we use our facial expressions, higher voiced vocalizations, and a bit of body language to express that gladness. Crows seem to use these things too, and in about the same ratio. This Crow reminds me of the guy (I have no idea who he is) who stands outside the local train station saying Good morning! to anyone and everyone for no obvious reason that I can tell. The greeting words themselves are secondary in importance to the gestural aspects, and the bouancy of the music. It is a song and a dance. Hence the expression, the same old song and dance?
The Call: It sounds like the human word How with more ooh at the end, Ha-ooh! And the two syllables are uttered quickly so that there is only one syllable HaU HaU HaU. This Crow sounds sleepy, or tired with a slow repeat, and a low pitch.
Compared to Fig: Fig usually uses a higher pitch but this is 3km from Figs territory, so maybe pronunciation varies, and this Crow's voice is also quite different from hers.
Fig's Reaction:
